I am linking up with Stephanie over at <a href="http://foreverinfifthgrade.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Forever in 5th Grade</a>. Any teacher will tell you May is one of the best months of the school year. You get to see the true fruits of your labor, and this is the time of the year where you really get to enjoy your class. As the teacher, you put forth so much effort for nine months and then you pass them on to the next teacher and hope that you made some impact on their life. My show and tell this month is a hodgepodge of sharing. Enjoy!</div>

A few weekends back my hubs and I went on an adventure to pilot mountain. We moved to North Carolina almost a year ago and we have been exploring various places since we moved. As long as the weather is nice, we enjoy taking our (well my girlie dogs) hiking. It was a short drive from Winston, where we live and was such an enjoyable day. We loaded up with snacks, packed the cooler and set out with the dogs in tow. We drove to the top and hiked around the base of the rocky point. It was a beautiful view overlooking the country side and the breeze was nice and cool. </div>

As I stated earlier we have been in NC for almost a year. We were very fortunate to have found an awesome church, with an even better small group. The small group is made up of engaged and newly married couples. The goal of the group is to read through a variety of marriage text within the first year to get your marriage off to a good start and to establish a biblical foundation. A few of the text we have already read through are the Five Love Languages, Saving Your Marriage Before It Starts, and The Art of Marriage. I suggest all of those text. No matter what stage of marriage you are in, I think there is insightful information in all of them.</div>

Oh yes and I should share about how my teaching experience has changed, grown, and developed through the move. Let me first begin with differences in states, districts, schools etc. I have felt like this was my first year teaching all over again. There are so many differences (even though both teach Common Core), that I basically started from square one. I went from a school that was laissez faire to one that is more of a micro managed situation, so you can imagine the confusion. I have also learned that teaching in a Title I school in one state is COMPLETELY different in another which is truly unfortunate. I found my way into teaching by wanted to teach children in poverty and to truly have an impact on their life and learning, but when teachers are held to such unreasonable standards it makes you want to teach students who don't have such home struggles that you can't fix, or control. It is truly heart wrenching. I have grown as an educator through these struggles this past year.</div>

Last and not least, we are trying to decide if we would like to take the plunge and purchase a home that is a fixer upper. Yes I am obsessed with Chip and Joanna. I love who they are and how they share their faith so openly. I told Wes I wanted to be them when I grown up. Hahaha. So we've been looking for a home is rough shape to purchase for cheap and invest money into to make it a sweet little home. We just went and viewed a home yesterday that I refer to as the "mamaw" home. An elderly lady lived there for about fifteen years, she has since past and the home has been empty for a while. It has good bones, but needs a complete over haul. We aren't for sure which way we want to proceed, but we will pray about it and see where God leads us.</div>

I have discovered in teaching at a new school in a new state a lot of methods, resources, and just plain old stuff is different (excuse the use of the word stuff I realize that is not using academic language, bleh). In learning new procedural techniques and adjusting I have learned that I am in despair without my iPad, that was provided from my other school. During my guided reading block of time, I have found multiple uses for an iPad. First a few apps are essential, those being Level Book and the Running Record app. Level Book keeps up with all of your running records for each student. It will allow you to go back at any time and replay the reading and is great for data tracking, which unfortunately is a huge part of teaching....data....The school I am currently a part of does not provide iPad's for teachers in grades 3-5th, thus posing a problem. In stating all of this I have written a donors choose project to hopefully fund an iPad for our guided reading instruction. If you would like to donor towards our goal we would greatly appreciate it. You can click the image below to go to our site to read, digest, and donate towards a great cause. Thank you!!</div>

I mean really who wants to follow a blogger who never blogs?! Let me catch you up on my face paced life. School let out last year at the end of May. I was married two weeks later. Our wedding was everything we ever dreamed of and more. Our only regret is that we didn't rent the reception venue all night. Little did we know we would be having the time of our lives (instead of being dead dog tired like I thought). Our wedding day was amazing. The weather couldn't have been any more beautiful. For the beginning of June it was not too hot and the sky was just and blue and clear as the ocean. There was little to no cloud coverage. Here are a few preview pictures...<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The chapel was located in Chattanooga, Tennessee on the campus of the University of Tennessee (where both of I attended school). Patten Chapel was build in the early nineteen hundreds and is almost a century old. It is amazingly gorgeous (I know bad use of adjectives for a teacher). Here are a few pictures of the inside...</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Ok enough about the chapel, now to the dress. The dress was an elegant fit and flair, designed by Stella York (an Australian). I found the dress at a store in Atlanta. The store will remain nameless because I don't want to send business their way. I absolutely loved my dress don't get me wrong, but the interactions I had with them were pain staking. The dress was ivory lace, with an oyster underlay to really make the lace stand out. The bridesmaid's dresses were Bill Levkoff and I loved how each girl selected her own. I felt like that gave them ownership in their own personal dresses. Here are some more visuals. </div>

Planning my wedding was one of the most enjoyable events in my life thus far. A lot of people think of it as a stressful grueling process. I enjoyed every minute of the ride. I would love to give a shout out to my florist (who is a teacher what what?!). She teaches middle school now, but she use to own her own florist store. She did an AMAZING job. Also another shout out to the baker. Dan the Cake Man is the bomb diggity. I think the cake tasting process was Wes' favorite of all the wedding festivities. The wedding cake was strawberry and white chocolate vanilla, with butter cream strawberry filling and was to die for. I can't wait until our year anniversary to have another taste. Wes' grooms cake was chocolate on chocolate with a Duck Dynasty flair. </div>

It's that time again to linky up with the <a href="http://inspiredowlscorner.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Inspired Owl</a> and <a href="http://www.pawsitivelyteaching.com/" target="_blank">Pawsitively Teaching</a> for the monthly Pick 3 Pins. Oh the joys of teaching measurement....Measurement is one of the hardest math standards, I believe, to teach fourth graders. It is really abstract for them to grasp, not to mention confusing because they have to learn US Customary and the Metric system for every unit of measure. I will be teaching weight this week, so I found this great anchor chart I am planning on using as a resource. </div>

This week I will be reviewing and reteaching theme. We gave our students a common formative assessment and the results were no bueno, so we decided to reteach theme. I found this resource on Pinterest and what a great idea to connect Disney songs to the theme. I have a feeling my students will love this idea. </div>

Lastly, this week I will begin a unit on Native American's in relation to North Carolina. Like I have stated in previous post, I recently moved to North Carolina and I do not know any North Carolina history. In saying that the students and I this year will be learning the standards collectively. I found this resource that I am planning on using to help teach about the natives of North Carolina!</div>

First let me apologize to my blog for neglecting it for quite some time. I am trying to get back into the blogging, designing for TpTs, and working on my Etsy store. Since a lot has been going on in my life over the past few months I have not been keeping up with my online resources. Here's a toast to blogging again!</div>

Happy October!! I don't know about you, but it is nice to have cooler weather (even though I am currently in the line of hurricane Joaquin YIKES!). I am originally from Georgia and I lived in the northwest corner, which never received hurricane weather due to the fact we were far from the coast. Now I live in North Carolina, which is about three hours from the coast. Therefore, the weather has pushed to the west from the coast to BAM my area. It has been raining from almost two weeks and everywhere is flooded. At least we live on a hill, but there are lots of tall, old trees that could easily loose branches which makes me nervous! Any who I am glad that you stopped by to see what I am up to. Please go link up with Farley and catch up with all of our other teacher blogging friends. </div>

Fortunately I still have on week left before a week of in service days. I recently moved states, so I will be starting a new job and I will be getting my classroom ready in a dash. I haven't been able to get into my room because the floors are not finished due to summer school. This summer was the fastest yet. I guess when you get married and move across states a lot of your time is taken up. This link up with 4th Grade Frolics is one of my absolute faves!! I will be including a few home creations. </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
This first project serves a very important purpose. The house we moved into is a lot smaller than where we lived before. The kitchen being one of the smallest rooms in the house. Needless to say, we had a lot more stuff than cabinet space. I had a genius idea to get a baker's rack. Well an actual baker's rack can be expensive, so I decided to DIY my own. I went to Walmart and purchased this utility shelf. I got my hubs to put it together for me. Afterwards, I ran out to Lowe's and took one of the shelves with me. I had a nice gentleman help me get plywood cut to fit the shelf size. I then wandered over to the stain and selected one that matched my kitchen table perfect! I stained each piece and let them dry over night. Voila! Like magic I put my wood pieces on my shelves and I now have a baker's rack. </div>

I saw this idea originally on Pinterest. This is my spin on a wedding day shadow box. Here you have my wedding invitation, program, bouquet (dried out of course), my grandfather's white bible from his wedding day, Wes' boutonniere, chalkboard label, an embroidered bible cover, and the letters are from our photo booth banner. I LOVE how it turned out!!</div>

These little treasure were inspired from Pinterest. Wes and I made these for his uncles birthday to go with a Jack Daniel's barrel table that his wife bought him. They are really easy to make. You need to first drink a bottle of Jack (I don't drink it, but my hubs loves it on special occasions). Then you need to go to Ace hardware and get a copper coupling. Lastly, pick up a wick that goes in a tiki torch. After you have these pieces you connect the coupling to the bottle with super glue and then drop the wick in. Oh yeah don't forget to get some citronella to pour in, so that when you light it you won't get bit by a mosquito. </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Since I just moved last Saturday I haven't exactly gotten to get into my new room. I went by to drop off all my school materials on Monday, but the floors were being waxed in my room. I had to drop off my materials in the book room as seen below. Don't judge the large mess.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I selected boards from Pinterest that I am planning to utilize when I actually get into my classroom (which i haven't even seen). </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="Library Bulletin Board - 25 Creative Bulletin Board Ideas for Kids, http://hative.com/creative-bulletin-board-ideas-for-kids/," height="300" src="https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/83/8b/19/838b196a1c4eb5810f59e19762e68bd2.jpg" width="400" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I came across this and I think it is adorable. Anytime you can get students interested in reading you've accomplished something. My prior years of students love musical lyrics and why not put a spin on Call Me Maybe?? I am planning on putting this board in the hallway, so others can enjoy as well. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="21 Cool Anchor Charts To Teach Close-Reading Skills/ We're Big on Evidence" height="400" src="https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/d7/d8/68/d7d868b23a071d08832455a61fada5c0.jpg" width="300" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I am also planning on setting this bulletin board in my classroom. I love the terminology that goes along with evidence based learning. Last year I spent a good amount of time explaining to my students how to cite evidence in a text and how to use it to prove your ideas or points. This bulletin board would provide students a place to visually see examples of evidence based learning. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="Love the boa as a border! Fancy Nancy can be used to go along with a fancy words wall. Students hear and learn new words every day and having a place for them to bring them back to gets them looking for new words that enhance their vocabulary." height="400" src="https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/3b/0e/96/3b0e9696b2639293831181476bf88065.jpg" width="300" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Last, but certainly not least. I tell my students all the time during writing to use fancy words. I tell them that no one wants to read blah writing. Blah writing has no unique thought or individual idea behind it. You know what I am talking about. We try to help one another by not using blah vocab. As a group we collectively brainstorm fancy words to use in our writing, so this board would be very helpful. </div>

<br />
First off let me congratulate <a href="http://www.pawsitivelyteaching.com/" target="_blank">Pawsitively Teaching</a> for starting a new job, kudos to you for change. I actually just moved states and I am beginning a new adventure myself. I hope your new job is fabulous. The top picks for this link up are back to school themed. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<a href="http://cafe1123.blogspot.com/p/readers-notebooks.html" target="_blank"><img alt="She has a great blog with lots of good ideas for reading/writing noteboooks. Check it out..." src="https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/68/8f/36/688f36697319f054e8d0834fb78d6ffc.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
I did this last year with my students to set up our reader's notebooks as well as writer's notebooks. My students were very engaged in this setup process. They were able to personalize their notebook to fit their specific personality. I would highly suggest to utilize this resource. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<a href="http://www.teachingforfameandmoney.blogspot.com/2013/01/anchor-charts-classroom-management.html" target="_blank"><img alt="Here's a nice anchor chart for voice levels. <br />
Since it is August and most of us have already begun school and the others are getting ready to, we all need to focus on structure. One of the most important aspects of teaching is structure. Talking happens in the classroom daily, sometimes it is positive and other times it is detrimental to learning. I really like the idea of making this anchor chart with the students and discuss the importance of when it is time to talk and when it is not. </div>

<br />
This past year while teaching in Georgia, the standardized testing changed. The new test, Georgia Milestone, was very rigorous and had extremely high expectations for my students. Each section had a writing portion. The answer document was 16 pages, yes 16 pages for nine and ten year olds. In saying that I basically had to prep them and do it quickly. Most of the writing prompt had something about citing evidence. I recently came across this anchor chart and boy oh boy, I would have loved to use it last year while I was prepping my students. </div>

I am a little late getting around to this <a href="http://www.thetattooedteacher.com/2015/08/assess-me-linky-week-2-this-or-that/" target="_blank">linky</a>. I apologize my life has been CRAZY the last two weeks. I just moved six hours away from my hometown to a new state, I am starting a new job etc I won't bore you with all the details in this blog post. If you are nosy there will be a separate post about the move.<br />
<br />
I did not participate in the post from last week as I was slinging items into moving boxes. I plan on continuing to join in on the next few weeks, so come back sit and stay a while.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
1. First off I selected jeans because I do love me some skinny aerie jeans from American Eagle. I also love maxi skirts and I wear them often to school. 2. I love all kinds of jewelry, but earrings definitely are my fav! 3. I selected Jay Z instead of Conan due to the fact that until this post I had not heard Conan's. 4. I really like silver and gold, but since my wedding ring is white gold I am leaning towards the silver option. 5. Since I just moved to Winston Salem I'm selecting city. I've always been more of a city person than a country one. 6. I love love love to shop. Yes I do online shop, but I prefer the whole shopping experience, the smell, the feel, and the excitement it gives me to do some retail therapy. 7. I mean who doesn't love a bubble bath??? 8. I like to keep my personal business my own, and I assume others do as well. 9. Home is where the heart is. 10. I love breakfast any time of day. Nom Nom. 11. I use to not drink coffee, that was until I started teaching. Now I can't survive without it. 12. Early to bed, early to rise makes a man healthy wealthy and wise. 13. Since it's summer I am undone 24/7. 14. Since it is currently thundering I chose it. 15. I never wear heels, like ever. 16. Bad airplane experience on our honeymoon. Never. fly.American Airlines.Never. 17. Central Air because the current status of the air conditioning in our house is froze up....we are melting up in here. </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
I clicked on this Pinterest find and boy oh boy did I find a jackpot. This blog has a ton of wonderful ideas. The way she teaches her students has to be in the most hands on genuinely creative, thoughtful lessons I have ever seen. From, math, literacy, social studies, science and on the lessons are interactive and are soooo much more than worksheets. I hope to implement some of these ideas into my third year that I am about to embark on. </div>

<img height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-GV8HK-KYsFU/VX2YJhXFe3I/AAAAAAAANRc/Et46UmRgVHA/s400/Slide1.jpg" width="400" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I'm really excited to be a part of this link up for first year teachers. I don't personally have a lot of experience, but I consider the experience I do have to be worth something. I teach (like most of us) at a Title I school where my students have so many issues it is like drawing straws to decide on which issue to begin with for the day. The two years that I have been a homeroom teacher have taught me about the struggle many American's are faced with daily. So here's my best advise!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9rBIkKnYVAM/VZYIprsuEJI/AAAAAAAAF7g/iwEY3TpJKfA/s1600/Rock%2B%255BRecovered%255D.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9rBIkKnYVAM/VZYIprsuEJI/AAAAAAAAF7g/iwEY3TpJKfA/s400/Rock%2B%255BRecovered%255D.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fJIF9C12q74/VX2ZFTCYvII/AAAAAAAANSM/gQ03XVXCy5k/s320/Screen%2BShot%2B2015-06-14%2Bat%2B11.08.42%2BAM.png" /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<ul>
<li><span style="color: magenta;">Come Prepared! </span>At our school we have a saying for the students and one part of our motto is to come prepared. That being said students and teachers alike must come prepared. Especially in teaching, prepare yourself and gird your loins. In order to execute lessons to students you MUST prepare ahead of time. Preparing for lessons make look different for different people and for different subjects. You will have to do some soul searching to figure out what exactly works for you and your personality. In the state of Georgia where I teach we are under strict scrutiny from the state for our observations. Our team has found the more we prep the better we are when they "pop in" to complete our many, many observations. I prepare by studying ahead, completing all lesson plans in a timely fashion, posting the standard being taught, having a multitude of resources, making copies, etc. </li>
<li><span style="color: magenta;">Be Consistent with Rules! </span>Consistency is the key. The only problem is consistency takes time, patience, and caffeine lots of it. If you haven't read Ron Clark's Essential 55 I HIGHLY suggest it. Ron comes across as a drill sergeant, but boy do his methods work. They are like pure gold. Not all of the rules apply to my specific classroom, but there are some that are on point! I usually begin the year with the top ten rules for the classroom and we go from there. We discuss consequences and run with it. I treat all of the students the same and don't back down (with the kids or a crazy parent). You will have a parent that will give you a hard time, usually there is one a year that is a little cray cray (that's the gird your loins part). It's not the kids that are the problem, it's more than likely their adult counterpart. Stay firm in your ideals and beliefs for your classroom. </li>
<li><span style="color: magenta;">Keep in Contact with Parents:</span> I have learned this one the hard way. See teaching in a school that there are children that come from pitiful home lives means they are a product of their environment. In saying that, there parents more often than not do not want to be bothered by my students making what I call collect calls home to discuss their behavior issues for the day. This goes back to my discipline procedures, if a student does something I deem as serious they call home in front of their peers are discuss their behavior with their parents. Call me mean or what have you, but it works like a charm. There have been times when I didn't have time to let the kids make the dreaded phone calls because teaching was more important, those times I make the kids write notes home and I sign the bottom of the note and ask them to bring them back to following day with a parent signature. </li>
</ul>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Q0yxrHsR2ss/VX2ZFdRmf8I/AAAAAAAANSI/XxTjy6HhyiA/s320/Screen%2BShot%2B2015-06-14%2Bat%2B11.08.31%2BAM.png" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<ul>
<li style="text-align: left;"><span style="color: lime;">Don't get burned out:</span> Listen here, teachers normally quit in the first five years because of the burn out. Your first year will more than likely be your hardest. That being said if you survive it you can survive anything. You will look back at those years and laugh and say I don't know that those kids learned anything (yes that may be true), but the lessons those kids teach you will be unforgettable. Leave everyday at a decent time. Do not bring work home with you (yes other teachers will tell you different). Make sure you don't stress over the small stuff. Enjoy the year, you'll look back on it and think wow who left me responsible for those kids (oh yeah that would be the parents. administration, and state board of education).</li>
<li style="text-align: left;"><span style="color: lime;">Don't worry the small stuff:</span> There may or may not be unnecessary drama at your school the first year, whether it be with a student, a parent, a teacher, or an administrator. The day will go on and the beauty of teaching is you get a fresh start everyday. Praise the lord. If it wasn't for the teachers would get burned out in the first month. </li>
</ul>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-CClJGpN43yA/VX2ZFCNY0GI/AAAAAAAANSY/qtiRchAhU18/s320/Screen%2BShot%2B2015-06-14%2Bat%2B11.08.20%2BAM.png" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
My mom always told me this quote when I was little and I still remember it until this day and somethings quote it for my students. It goes a little something like this: </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Once a job has first begun, </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
never leave it till its done,</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
though the task be great or small, </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
do it well or not at all. </div>

Hello July nice to see you again and at the same time sad to see you again. July is one of my most favorite months partly because of it beingin the summer and partly because it is my birthday month. Another part of me knows July is the count down to the end of summer break. Now that is depressing! I am linking up with <a href="http://ohboy3rdgrade.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Farley</a> for the Currently July 2015 to see what other are up to and to see if they are loving July like I am.<br />

<li style="margin: 0px 0px 0.25em; padding: 0px;"><b><span style="font-weight: normal;">I am currently </span>thinking </b>I need to be sleeping at 1:26 am which is my current time, but jet lag got me going all night. You wouldn't think a six hour different would lead to Eastern Standard Time insomnia, but it does. </li>
<li style="margin: 0px 0px 0.25em; padding: 0px;">I am currently <b>wanting </b>to get my etsy store up and running. I posted a couple of selections offered by Palmer Prints, but I really need to post all the ones that I have done. Since I made all the invitations for my wedding showers, and everything else wedding I figured I should share the love. </li>
<li style="margin: 0px 0px 0.25em; padding: 0px;">I am currently <b>needing</b> to go do an overhaul in the closet. It is what I like to call a situation. I need to do some spring cleaning on my summer break if you get my drift.</li>
<li style="margin: 0px 0px 0.25em; padding: 0px;">I am currently <b>all star </b>getting my workout groove in order. It's about dern time. </li>

I am linking up with Katie over at <a href="http://queenofthefirstgradejungle.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Queen of the First Grade Jungle</a>. If you don't follow her on Instagram let me tell you that you must go an do it now. I follow her and get to see the adorable photos of her sweet children that she posts. I am also jelly that she lives in Charleston. She is very inspirational that she manages her family, work, and fitness life so well. In her blog post she discusses her challenges getting back into the groove of working out. I didn't just have a baby, but I feel like I have been off the workout train for a while. I got sick a week before the wedding which set me back, then I went on an eleven day honeymoon to Hawaii. Wes and I ate whatever we wanted which most days included dessert (which we never partake in because you know that's a sin). Basically what I am getting at is that I haven't completely gotten back my routine yet. I really tried to bust my tail before the wedding, but I don't want to be a slacker and gain 30 lbs the first year of marriage. I was at Wal-mart picking up a few things the other day and ran across the cutest Danskin tanks that I had to buy them to motivate me to head to the gym.<br>

It's that time again...for me to knock the dust of the blog and post something. I've been a little preoccupied getting married and all that jazz. Honeymooning in Hawaii, so I have been off the map....literally. </div>

Yes I realize today is Wednesday, but better late than never right? I absolutely LOVE connecting with new bloggers and what a way to get to know each other than looking at old photos and reminiscing. I hope you enjoy these summer throwbacks.</div>

I am a little late linking up for this Pinterest pick, but better late than never. I have been so busy on my first week off of summer break finalizing wedding plans. I made my list and checked it twice. Yes I have only been out of school for a week, but I am already thinking about next school year. The following are different ideas I plan to utilize next year. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-am8k9Ysx65k/VWom8XO8idI/AAAAAAAAGDU/u0XbnpKEzrk/s400/June.jpg" /></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
First off I love the idea of interactive notebooks. Have I successfully used them throughout a whole school year no, but I do wish to implement them next year a stick to them. I like this post because it gives the teacher ways to successfully use them without losing your mind and keeping your sanity.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/270075308880669388/" target="_blank"><img alt="Does it drive you crazy to see your students shuffling through the notebooks trying to find their next empty page? Do they constantly leave empty pages between entries? Do YOU hate having to spend time finding the page you are looking to assess? Then, the cutting corners method is for you! When you assess notebooks, cut the upper right corner. Just place your thumb on the upper right hand corner and flip…you're on a fresh page! Ta-da!" height="320" src="https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/20/ab/bc/20abbcfc2cac369c6f4429b16e474eaa.jpg" width="255" /></a></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I don't know about you, but in Georgia we implemented a new standardized test this year that had a TON of writing. My students were basically expected to write like high school students and use evidence based reasoning to support their ideas. My students were not familiar with the words cite, evidence, support, etc. coming from a home where English is not their first language is difficult in setting the bar so high that it is almost unreachable. I did what any teacher would do and had to train the students to write to the test. Shhhh I didn't say that, but yes I did. Writing in my opinion should be creative and expressive, but that is not what the test clearly wants. They want research, evidence based logic. </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Boy oh boy it is time for another link up with the wonderful 4th Grade Frolics!! This is by far one of my most favorite link up blog posts. Today was my official first day off from work for summer vacation and I sure got a lot accomplished. I am going to share some of the new thing-a-ma-jigs that I have made recently and some oldie but goodies. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_yAWh0QJW2g/VWzt5xiWvPI/AAAAAAAAD0o/nOFhIyjwqeU/s200/Button%2B1.png" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Numero uno- I am going to showcase some math task cards that my students love. I typically use them as a review tool after I have already taught the lesson, or I use them to help with differentiation. The first one is a sponsor freebie currently, so grab it while you can. The other two are just ones that I am choosing to highlight this month. </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Numero-dos (not sure why I am attempting to speak Spanish. I guess because I have had three years of it and still cannot speak a lick to communicate effectively. Anyways, I am highlighting for number two a few of my science task cards. Another set of students favorites I might add. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
Numero tres- might as well keep with the Spanish theme. These are my newest products for 5th grade social studies. They are great support material to use while teaching, after the lesson has been taught, or just review. </div>

I am so excited to be teaming up with <a href="http://junglelearners.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Melissa</a> for this Stop, Swap & Roll blog link up. Swapping products with fellow teacher bloggers is an excellent way to learn more about other teachers, students, and get a change to "try out" products for one another. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-yk1B8y4y9fY/VFw4HJ5fbmI/AAAAAAAAA3o/PDEMGZLLQko/s400/StopSwap%26Roll.png" height="376" width="400" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I had the pleasure of linking up with Heather, of Mrs. Renz Class. She really helped me out with reviewing my product and even helping me with blog trouble shooting. I am so grateful to have had this opportunity to meet a fellow veteran 4th grade teacher, whom I can learn a lot from. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://mrsrenzclass.blogspot.com/" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zx9uEncpSYk/Uz3JclpcBaI/AAAAAAAAG1w/W7Xx2aIvPs0/s1600/Mrs+Renz+class+button.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Heather is wonderful. She sent me her latest <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Figurative-Language-Poetry-Interactive-Notebook-Posters-NO-PREP-Materials-1795587" target="_blank">figurative language interactive poetry notebook</a> set. This set includes a variety of figurative language words, there meanings, and examples for each. My students were able to learn the use and meaning of alliteration, hyperbole, idiom, metaphor, personification, onomatopoeia, and simile. They also loved getting to cut out, color, and glue the sets in their reader's notebooks. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/--YPZ2Ml22SA/VR9PWtbWQaI/AAAAAAAACB0/VQppwL38iv4/s400/Mrs.%2BRenz%2BPoetry%2BInteractive%2BFigurative%2BLanguage%2B.png" height="297" width="400" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Her set also included a PPT presentation that I was able to pull up on my smart board and go over with the students while they were working on their projects in their notebooks. Below you will get an inside look at my students working on this notebook set. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Please excuse the layout of my room during this. We just finished our Georgia Milestones testing the day before. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
This product was very easy for my students to follow along with. They were able to work page by page as I was instructing them on the word, definition, and example.</div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-tP0KOEJmHxs/VTPsNlCiPaI/AAAAAAAACzU/mCA8teERda8/s640/blogger-image--1170557510.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-tP0KOEJmHxs/VTPsNlCiPaI/AAAAAAAACzU/mCA8teERda8/s400/blogger-image--1170557510.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
They love anything where they have the chance to make something. At our school we have a high ELL population. This product really help to give my ELL students a concrete example of each word and its meaning. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Also more than half of my class is EIP, this set was very user friendly for them to be able to work at their own pace and still be able to learn the challenging information presented to them. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Last, but certainly not least, I let me students cut and glue their pages in anyway that they chose. They were also allow to draw a picture to show an example for each. Here is what I received:</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-cer1J-N4w7c/VTPsQgGzbWI/AAAAAAAACz0/gKI4aF3hOzI/s640/blogger-image--259589077.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-cer1J-N4w7c/VTPsQgGzbWI/AAAAAAAACz0/gKI4aF3hOzI/s400/blogger-image--259589077.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Side note: my students didn't glue them in the flap style like the directions said to, but think they still used them effectively. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Overall I think this project is an excellent resource for figurative language, which can be a challenging standard for students to learn. They loved having independence to work, cut, draw, and glue all while learning. Thank you Heather!!</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
I am linking up this raining evening in Georgia with Tara at <a href="http://4thgradefrolics.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">4th Grade Frolics</a> for Monday Made It. I love, love, love this link up. I learn about all sorts of products whether educational or not. I get inspired to make my very own creations. My state testing starts on Wednesday, so this link up may not be as fancy as others due to lack or energy and time!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
My first Monday Made It are my wedding programs that I finished last week. I created the design from my TPT skills and printed them on card stock paper. I folded and glued them last week. Now let me say that the first one I thought was adorable.....150 later I was muttering under my breath that I hoped to never look at them again. Here is a preview:</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-m2VuMq4aoEo/VSMqsJFh1uI/AAAAAAAACtg/smzc1LUX7Y0/s640/blogger-image-434110906.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-m2VuMq4aoEo/VSMqsJFh1uI/AAAAAAAACtg/smzc1LUX7Y0/s400/blogger-image-434110906.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Next on my to do list from last week (my Spring Break) I wanted to make photo holders to flask a pallet I made last summer. I got the idea while shopping at Kohls and I noticed the price tag was $100. Yipes Stripes Fruit Stripe Gum!?!!?!? Who has $100 for something so simple.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Here is the pallet I made:</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Here are the picture holders which are basically a piece of wood with hooks drilled into them.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Last but not least, I am working on finishing up centerpiece ideas for the tables at the wedding reception. I had a friend cut these beautiful black walnut tree slices for me yesterday. My new goals is to sand and put a polyurethane finish on them by June. I think I can, I think I can. </div>

I love getting to read and catch up on what every one is up to each month. This month is going to be crazy busy for me and looks like a lot of other people. I am wrapping up my last day on spring break and I am anxiously waiting for next week to begin. We start our Georgia Milestones testing on Wednesday, so say a prayer because we will need it. State testing is one of the most grueling processes in teaching. Anyways back to currently take a look below to see what I am up to!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Welcome to my first link up with <a href="http://www.luckylittlelearners.com/2015/04/my-busy-2nd-grade-schedule.html" target="_blank">Lucky Little Learners</a> for a brand new monthly linky called #2getherwearebetter. I am a 4th grade teacher in a Title 1 school in Georgia.I have 28 students in my class below is what our crazy schedule looks like. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-l87pMcz9LRQ/VR6ae5B75BI/AAAAAAAACs4/YQ7BjssFOgs/s1600/Schedule.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-l87pMcz9LRQ/VR6ae5B75BI/AAAAAAAACs4/YQ7BjssFOgs/s1600/Schedule.jpg" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
8:10-8:25 During this time the bell rings for students to come into classes. I normally greet them every morning at the door. At this time, I can assess the kind of day we will have by the state of mind the kids are in. They come in and take out their morning work folders and get busy. During this time they also are suppose to finish any homework that their parent's couldn't help them with. We have morning television announcements on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. On Tuesdays and Thursdays we watch CNN student news on the Smartboard. I have created morning work products for my students and you can find them here:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Common-Core-Language-Arts-Morning-Work-Week-1-6-1357635" target="_blank"><img alt="Common Core: Language Arts: Morning Work Week 1-6" src="https://mcdn1.teacherspayteachers.com/thumbitem/Common-Core-Language-Arts-Morning-Work-Week-1-6-1357635/original-1357635-1.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is for week 1-6. There are other sets that are sold for the other weeks. Go check them out. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
8:25-10:00 During this time my challenge students leave and my EIP math groups. Both groups are pulled out for specialized instruction. At this time I teach from a new math curriculum called Engage NY. Our math coach found this curriculum and we began teaching in in late September. It is very rigorous for our students, but I like and the kids do too.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
10:00-10:25 We have a program for literacy and it is very strict. During this time we do our reading mini lesson. I usually read a book for our read aloud and teach a mini lesson on the topic being covered for the week.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
10:25-11:10 We complete our guided reading during this time. This year is different than years past. Each fourth grade teacher teaches homogeneous groups of leveled reading. For example I teach levels S,T,U,V which is the highest readers in fourth grade. This group is around 30 students. They read independently when I am not meeting with their groups. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
11:10-11:15 We switch our students back to their homeroom teacher and walk down to the lunch room.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
11:15-11:35 Lunch</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
11:35-11:50 Recess. Normally I go out at 11:50 and if the weather is nice I give the students an extra five minutes. Luckily at our school teachers do not have lunch or recess duty.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
11:50-12:00 We walk back to the classroom which is on the third floor which is quite a trek from the playground. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
12:00-12:15 We complete our grammar work or language arts standards.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
12:15-12:45 During this time we complete what we call Buddy Study. Buddy Study is our leveled spelling groups that we teach. I teach the second grade principles to our fourth grade students. There is another blog post that details out Buddy Study. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
12:45-1:45 Writing time. We usually do a writing genre for each term. This year I taught informational first term, narrative second term, reader's response third term and fourth will be persuasive. Students write in their writer's notebooks.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
1:50-2:40 Specials. Our specials are designed so that the students stay in the same special for an entire week before switching with the exception of PE each Wednesday.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
2:40-3:30 I teach Social Studies to my students and another teacher's students. The teacher I switch students with teaches mine Science. If my kids go to Science for the day then we pack up early and students take their book bags with them. </div>
